11 Strategies for Keeping Your Home Clean!!

home-interiors-2-1234950Picture by FreePik

The struggle is indeed real when it comes to maintaining a clean home. Even with the assistance of occasional help, keeping a home clean takes effort. These 11 strategies have been proven to help. Trust me!! Take the challenge for yourself and let me know how it worked.

1) Wash a small load of clothes each day. Do not let your clothes pile up. A large stack of laundry can be intimidating. Wash only as many clothes as you can comfortably put away at one time.
2) Don’t let your dirty dishes stack up. Wash dishes immediately or place them in the dishwasher after use. If necessary, use paper or plastic disposal dishes.
3) Clean your refrigerator often. Do not let left overs or to go containers take over your refrigerator.
4) Vacuum after you dust.
5) Use a swifter sheet or microfiber cloth to wipe down baseboards, window seals, and other surfaces.
6) Remove clutter, not create more storage space. Please refrain from constantly buying items to hid things.
7) Keep flat surfaces clean. Its easy to drop paper or other items on your coffee table, dresser, kitchen counter, etc..
8) Keep coupons in a clear poly folder in your car. We often have great coupons but accidentally leave them at home.
9) Use your calendar and create a realistic daily routine. Do small projects each day.
10) Return borrowed items immediately. Assign a home for everything.
11) Politely decline unwanted items of friends and family. Limit the amount of items that you bring into your home.

Please share some of the strategies you use to keep your home clean? If you haven’t subscribed to the Decorator’s Voice, please do so to stay updated on interior decorating tips, organizational ideas, and planning & productivity strategies.

How to Organize those Tacky Cords on Your Desk!!

cordclippic

I recently transformed a small 7 x 8 closet into my home office. It’s equipped with everything I need from my desk to my files to a decorative light fixture. Of course, it has to be divinely decorated!! One thing that was not divine was those tacky cords on my desk. I basically had two options… Pull the cords towards the middle of the desk when they are not plugged into anything or take the risk of allowing them to fall behind the desk. Since my desk is against the wall, I would have to crawl under the desk to awkwardly try to pull them up and ask someone to grab them from the front. I did not like the look of those cords on my desk. Not Divine.

Cordbefore

You can imagine how excited I was to be asked by Adhesive Cable Clips to review their clips. I couldn’t wait to test the product for them and report my findings. Being able to receive the product for free was a win/win for me. When I received the package, I was pleasantly surprised to see it contained a total of 6 channel clips. Three were single clips and three were double clips. I loved the double clip option for managing multiple cords using one clip. As a person with multiple devices, having different options is great. I decided to use three clips in my office and use the remaining three clips on the nightstand in my bedroom for my cell phones and iPad.

You can watch the instructional video on how I actually installed the cable clips on YouTube here.

Initially, I was a little nervous that the clips would not stay in place. However, the strong 3M adhesive assures it will stay in place. I am very satisfied with this product and give it two thumbs up.

As you can see (or not see), the cords are out of sight…. How Divine!! I was surprised to see these cords are only $8.95 and can be purchased on Amazon.com.  Free shipping with Amazon Prime…

I would love to hear what you are using to organize the cords on your desk, bedroom, or office. If you aren’t following this blog or our other social media, please do so. We would love to share our decorating tips, organizational ideas, and planning & productivity strategies with you. Thanks and have a Divine Day!!!

7 Things to do Tonight for a Successful Tomorrow

It doesn’t matter if you are a student, professional, or stay at home mom, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. Often, when we wake up in the morning, we may feel overwhelmed with all of the items we have on our agenda. These 7 suggestions will help eliminate some of the stress we feel when our alarm goes off in the morning.

1) Get your clothes ready the night before. Take a few minutes out of your evening to decide exactly what you are going to wear for the next day. Determine if you need to iron anything, find that special accessory, or even try on something you may not have worn for a while. By getting your clothes (under, outer, and shoes) ready the night before, you will not have to spend useful time in the morning looking for an article of clothing that you may have misplaced, put in the cleaners, or simply not available.

clothes

2) Pack your work or lunch bag. If you have a work or school bag, pack it with all of the items needed for the next day. Don’t wait until you are running out of the house to sign a permission slip for a field trip or to put an important document you may need in your work bag. By having your bag packed the night before, that is one less thing that you have to worry about doing in the morning or potentially forgetting. It’s also great to have a routine of just picking up your bag (which will be in the designated area) in the morning before walking out of the door. If you pack a lunch for yourself or your child, you may pack the non perishable items in the lunch bag and sit it on the counter. The refrigerated items can also be assembled together in the refrigerator and ready to be tossed in the lunch bag in the morning.

3) Determine the top three things you would like to accomplish tomorrow. Of course, we all have a list of 99 items we need to do. Simply determine the top 3 things the night before. In the morning, you can tackle those items first. Once completed, you will have less stress and can adequately complete other items on your to-do list if needed.

4) Relax your mind before going to bed. If you can, don’t just jump in the bed after a long day of work. Try to schedule a little down time to unwind. Drinking a glass of hot tea or warm milk, relaxing in a bathtub, and reading a few pages out of your favorite novel is an excellent way to relax before going to bed.

5) Set your alarm clock for the time you need to get up. Don’t allow for “snoozing” time. We all have been guilty of setting our alarm for a certain time, but deep down we know we are going to hit “snooze” until the last minute. By doing so, this only interrupts our full potential sleeping time. Ultimately, it does us more harm than good.

6) Cover up the light on your cable box, clock, or cell phone. At night, we may wake up several times and look at the time. When we look at the time, we are mentally calculating how much time we have left to sleep. We are wasting time and energy by doing so. If we know we will not be able to see the clock when we wake up in the middle of the night, we will just keep our head down and go back to sleep sooner. We will not waste time trying to calculate the time in our heads, causing us to stress out while we are supposed to be sleeping.

7) Develop a Schedule. Developing and sticking to a morning routine is great for time management. After you’ve implemented and mastered your morning routine, you should have less surprises in the morning. Perhaps, you may even become a happy morning person.

Day Designer Planner Review and Giveaway

Day Designer PlannerPlanning and productivity are very important to me. Everyone knows I enjoy all things planner related. As a busy mother, decorator, organizer, blogger, and YouTuber, I’m always looking for tools to help me create balance in my life. When Whitney English Day Designer and Blue Sky collaborated to make an affordable and functional planner, I immediately wanted to review one and offer a few to my subscribers. This particular Day Designer can be purchased at Target. Target offers several different planner options from pocket size to a desk pad.

The cover

I absolutely love the striped black and white cover on this planner. The cover is hard bound and durable. The spiral coils are gold and is a great contrast to the cover. The monthly tabs are laminated and does not stick beyond the cover.

Pages 1 & 2

DDCalendar

The first page shows a two year at a glace reference. This is excellent for a brief overview of two years. The second page displays “The Story” of the planner. It contains a letter and information from Whitney English, Day Designer Creator and Founder and Jim Freeman, Blue Sky Founder and CEO.

Start with The Big Picture & Set Your Goals

Day Designer 1 & 2

This page is where you can write down the important things in your life such as your goals, ideas, and aspirations. I think this section is great to really look and revisit the “big picture.”

I absolutely love the idea of being able to set multiple goals. The specific goals listed are “Personal Goals”, “Family, Friends, & Relationship Goals”, “Heart & Spirit Goals”, “Financial Goals”, and “Work, Career, or Study Goals.” There is also an “Accomplish By” section for each goal. This is good for annotating either your projected completion date or the date you actually completed your goal.

Design Your Days & Stay On Course

DD34

In order for me to have a productive day, I must plan my morning and evening routines. I love the idea of being able to plan my everyday activities in this section. The Stay on Course section is great for keeping track of important milestones. You can review your course throughout the week, month, or year. This allows you to do whatever works for you.

Monthly View

DDMonthly

The monthly view is printed on a two page spread. It has a section for monthly “to do & notes.” It also shows the previous month and upcoming month. Holidays are indicated with a little page flag as a reminder. I love being able to see my entire month at one time. Each block is lined. This feature is great for me.

Weekly View

DSC00265

The weekly view is also on a two page spread in a vertical style. I love the “Today’s Top Three” section for each day. By focusing on the most important things, you may be able to accomplish them more effectively. Each week also contains an inspirational quote. The daily schedule is listed in one hour increments from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Although it’s listed in the hourly increments, you can be creative and do what works best for you. The bottom section of the day is listed as “Tonight.” Feel free to list your evening activities. You can also use this section as a meal planner or to track your water intake. The last section is for gratitude, notes, and next week.

Blank Pages

DDNotes

There are 11 lined empty pages which you may use for notes.

Holiday Calendar

DDHolidays

A list of all holidays and some important dates are listed in the back of the planner.

Overall, I am very pleased with this planner. It is an excellent option for anyone wanting to design their day and increase productivity.

My Four Favorite iPad Accessories

Fave Four

I’ve only been an iPad owner for about two years. I initially refused to drink the “Apple” Kool-Aid, but ultimately I gave in. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, my iPad is like my BFF. It goes EVERYWHERE with me along with my Erin Condren Life Planner.

1) Apple Wireless Keyboard

Apple Wireless Keyboard

I absolutely love my Apple Wireless Keyboard. There are multiple companies that sale blue tooth keyboards, but I recommend purchasing this one made by Apple. It is very easy to connect to your iPad. It only required two AA batteries. The wireless feature allows you to easily and conveniently take notes or send emails. The Apple Wireless Keyboard can be purchased at Amazon for less than Apple. I’m sure you will love it as much as I do.

2) Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

This product is a must for people who want to access pictures on their iPad from a SD card or from their camera using a usb. This item is a plug and play. After connection, your iPad will open the photo app. You can select which photos you want to import. The imported photos will download to your photo album which may be used for social media, text, or email. I absolutely love accessory because I love to take pictures with a camera instead of my iPad. The Apple iPad Connection Kit can also be purchased from Amazon.

3) Grititi Nottle iPad Tripod Mount

Nottle1Nottle2

An iPad Tripod Mount is a must for vloggers, teachers, speakers, movie makers, or anyone needing to have their iPad on a tripod. It easily and safely connects to a tripod with any ¼-20 threaded tripod head, ball head or camera head. It is made with a polyurethane surface for a snug fit. There are also several teleprompter apps which can be downloaded to turn your iPad into a teleprompter. This product can also be purchased at Amazon.

4) Custom iPad Folio Case

ipadminifolio

Our iPads need a Divine home. I absolutely love my custom iPad folio case. It’s made with faux leather and the design is on the front and back. The case is considered a “flexible interior hard case” with a micro fiber lining. To conserve it’s battery life, the iPad goes into a sleep mode when the case is closed. This case is both functional and stylish. It can be ordered in the Divine Elements of Design Online Boutique.

Thank you very much for reading about my four favorite iPad accessories. I will be back soon with my favorite iPad apps. Please share some of your favorite iPad accessories in the comment box. I would love to hear from you. Also, if you haven’t subscribed to this blog, please do so to stay updated on my decorating projects, organizational ideas, and planning & productivity tips.

Decorating With Trays Can Be Divine!!

Trays are great as anchors for your home’s decor. Trays help define an area and also deters clutter on flat surfaces. Trays can be utilized for multiple uses in many rooms. You can be as creative as your hearts desire. Below are a few examples of how you can decorate with trays in different rooms.

1) Living Room

Use a decorative tray on an ottoman in your living room. Many people are opting against coffee tables but still need a place to rest a cup or remote control. A tray can be a very stylist alternative to a traditional coffee table. You can also accent the tray with accessories or flowers to tie in the room’s decor.

2) Makeup Table / Bathroom Counter

This clear acrylic tray is simply divine. You can keep all of your makeup and beauty items in an equally beautiful tray. Its beautiful enough to be placed on your vanity table or bathroom counter.

3. Coffee / Tea Station

Keep all of your coffee and hot tea items together on a tray. Its large enough to hold your coffee maker, cup, sugar, and other items needed for that perfect cup of Joe or Earl Grey.

4. Guest Room

I love to welcome my overnight guests with a box of chocolate and bottle water in the guest room. Often, out of towners may get thirsty in the middle of the night, but don’t want to raid your kitchen or wake you up. In addition to a “welcome packet,” I make sure to leave a new bottle of water on a bedroom themed tray.

 5) Bedroom Dresser Tray

A bedroom’s dresser is often cluttered with keys, mail, money, receipts, and items from a person’s pocket and/or purse. We tend to use flat surfaces such as dressers and night stands as a quick spot to “temporarily” place items. Often, these flat surfaces are easy to become over cluttered. Try placing a tray on your dresser or nightstand to collect items. The tray will keep all items together and limit the amount of items placed on it.
